Overworked and Underpaid
Overworked and Underpaid
When I wake in the morning I just lay in bed and close my eyes.
Cause my bones are so tired, I’m so tired I could hardly think.
Feed my kids, rush them off to school, pay for after-care, pay for nanny care.
Cause I know, I’ll be gone all day, I’ll be gone all night, just to make ends meet.
To Make Ends Meet.
I’m overworked and underpaid, 2 full-time jobs and not a livable wage.
I’m busting my ass, I can barely pay rent, I’m a sick-day away from living in a tent.
I’m overworked and underpaid ahhhhhhhhh
When I wake in the morning I just lay in bed and close my eyes.
Cause my bones are so tired, I’m so tired I could hardly think.
The cost of life keeps on rising up, it keeps rising up, every single year.
But my wage, oh it hasn’t changed no it hasn’t changed, a stagnant minimum wage.
I Can’t Make Ends Meet.
I’m overworked and underpaid, 2 full-time jobs and not a livable wage.
I keep busting my ass, I can barely pay rent, I’m a sick-day away from living in a tent.
I’m overworked and underpaid ahhhhhhhhh
I’m overworked and underpaid ahhhhhhhhh
I’m overworked and underpaid ahhhhhhhhh

Notes:
Most workers understand that raising the minimum wage to a livable wage is important to sustain healthy economical prosperity and job growth in the US. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage can reduce poverty, government welfare spending and income inequality. A minimum wage increase could also help to reduce race and gender inequality and could possibly lead to a healthier population. Increasing the minimum wage could have a positive ripple effect throughout our communities and increase worker productivity and reduce employee turnover.
Politicians who vote against a minimum wage increase are not dumb to the fact that cost of living is dramatically rising while wages remain stagnate. Why are these elected representatives not wanting their very own community to have a living wage? The minimum wage is just a generalized amount blanketed across the entire nation and does not take into account the differences each city is to the next. Check out this Living Wage Calculator for your specific location and find out how much is needed just for you, or your entire family to live.
At the next town-hall meeting with your elected representative, demand that they walk through step by step the cost of living, which includes the average rent for your area, utilities, insurance, school, food. This is just the bare minimum. Then have them show you exactly how those costs will be covered by the minimum wage. Does your representative respect you?
Only vote for a politician who supports raising the minimum wage to a livable wage within your community.
